Work

When Sarah and Meaghan were much younger, I could tell a half hour ahead of time when they were going to have a squabble. When I was growing up in a house full of boys there was no such notice. A dispute could erupt at a moments notice. This relates to the subject in that for the last few months I’ve been expect a technical situation to come to a head.

For the last couple months I’ve been working away at trying to diffuse it. Ironically, I’ve been trying to do that through other people because, organizationally, it’s their job. And, like many large organizations, I don’t have the access to areas that are not my job.

This week the situation did come to a head. Although there are still miscellaneous items to be done, the problem has been resolved. I had intended tonight to write a few thoughts about life in general which have come to the fore as a result of recent and upcoming events. But, I’ve not been able to collect my thoughts.

Another anniversary came and went

Yesterday was our anniversary. For the most part it was like any other Friday. We did wish each other a ‘Happy Anniversary’ a few times. But, we didn’t get to do anything anniversary-ish until today. After all, we had been together all week which made it a special sort of week anyway. Late this morning, we slipped out for a bit of window shopping and an eat in stop at the Tim Horton’s at the mall.

In the previous post, I alluded to another thing that was in the works. At about 6PM on Thursday night, I received a call on the cell phone to let us know that the second offer we had put in on a house had been accepted. In about a month, we will get the keys to another century old home. And, for a while, we will be own 2 such houses approximately 275 km (170 miles) apart. In a way, I’d like to say I/we planned it for an anniversary gift. But, it was really quite coincidental. Undoubtedly, though, the news largely eclipsed the anniversary thing.

Without further ado, here it is (You can click through to a mini tour):

Our new house

All’s quiet on the western front

It’s been 5 weeks since I posted anything of any length. It’s safe to say I haven’t been idle. There is lots going on. For this week, I’m just going to tell you about 2 of them. Hopefully, next week we will have sorted out another thing and I’ll be able to fill you in on that as well.

If you read Andrea’s blog you may recall that 5 weeks ago she told you about her trip to the hospital and 3 weeks ago I went home in the middle of the week to do a whirl wind tour of the province. We went to see an oncologist. Next Friday she has more surgery. And, for a while after that she will be recuperating again. I’m going to leave it for her to fill you in on the rest. It has been a challenging winter. As you might guess, I’ve been thinking about life’s challenges and may get to sharing some of those in the next week or two.

Quite a while ago, I mentioned that we would be moving Homeschool Journal. We purchased dedicated space this month and both Andrea & I are working away at a list of items that need to be done in anticipation of that move. The move has been prolonged substantially due to the obvious priority of Andrea’s health and recuperation. For the next while, I will be taking care of domestic things on the weekends and working on the new HSJ at nights here. So, I expect that posting will continue to be minimal here. HSJ is now more than a year old. In the last year, we have received a number of donations which have more than covered the cost of the hosting. We have enough left over to cover a couple months on the new server. We are hoping to be able to grow HSJ to 1000 active blogs on the new server. We have things that we are planning for down the road which will support the site. In the mean time, if you are so inclined and you have a few dollars to spare, we would appreciate a donation toward the server which is quite a bit more expense.

A bit of a surprise
