Straight man

May 6, 10:26 PM

Being the straight man and delivering one liners with the best in outward appearance of seriousness is one of the things that I bring to our household. Andrea had quite a few comments on one of my many straight man moments.

Despite the fact that a couple readers didn’t see the humour initially, they raised a very valid point. One of the keys to marital longevity/success is good communication.

Humour goes a long way toward sustaining a marriage as well. Despite the variety of hardships and issues we have encountered in the last 20 years, Andrea and I have laughed together alot.

A third key to a good marriage is thinking of and imagining yourself in your partner’s place. Yes, your partner. Look at it like you are in this together; that you’re a team and take the time to evaluate what sort of teammate you are.

  1. It’s so simple, it’s brilliant. Sad how people jumped to the conclusion that it was a disagreement! I laughed, it was so like Jim and I. Too bad you guys are so far away, I think we’d all 4 get along great!!!

  2. Because I’ve “known” you guys for a while, I just thought it was funny. Obviously, you wouldn’t be so happy for so long if you couldn’t communicate.

  3. That advice, given long ago, by some unremembered sagely neighbor, got my DH and I through the last 10 years together. Good stuff that.:)

I thought it was funny. We actually have it in our vows not to wallpaper together…EVER.
