That's the sort of thing I was expecting would happen if we repaired the old one. We'd spend $1500-2000 and get a year or two out of it.

We're supposed to fill our old one as well if it's not going to be used. I've been mulling over keeping it for watering gardens, washing vehicles, etc. I haven't tried to find out if there will be an issue with that.

Our closest neighbor on the same side of the road is almost 1/4 mile away so that would be a bit of garden hose :D The neighbors across the road from us have been very helpful in letting us lug away all the drinking water we need.

Last night and this morning the water from our old well is cloudy, so I suspect more collapsing from the vibration of drilling yesterday. A bit of a confirmation that we made the right choice.

Oh and less than a year later city water arrived and we had to fill the well. So for the $1600 we spent we got almost a year of water. Could have been much worse.

That looks somewhat familiar! We didn't have to drill a new well but we had to get one of those trucks in our backyard because the pump had seized and was a size too large for the well and had rusted to the casing. they tried and tried to get it out otherways but eventually ended up using the rig to pound it down till it broke free from the casing and could be pulled up.

Then they blasted water down into the well to clear out the huge collection of iron that had built up down there. There were just piles of rust flakes and chunks.

Glad it all worked out for you!

Oh! And for our temporary water we connected a half dozen or more hoses together and ran them from our outside faucet across our property & the neighbors to their outside faucet! It still seems strange to have had water coming into the whole house through the faucet. But all we did was shut off the line to the well and it worked. We even had fairly decent pressure.

It is hard to believe that many don't know the terms of their home loan. But given what happened to housing market in the good old USA that may well be true. If more would have read the terms and went...maybe this doesn't make sense who knows were we would be. Nice post. thanks.

Thanks :) The motto of the brothers who started McCain's Foods was, "The only way to fail is to not try." Even if you aren't successful in a particular thing, you learn something from trying.

Yep, it's funny how stuff works out. Though that bit about never getting anything unless you ask/offer seems to be a pretty important piece of the puzzle. So many people are scared to ask.

And happy birthday.
